2017 Christmas/New Year’s greeting from Pastor Schwarzkopf in St. Petersburg

Dear sisters and brothers at Grace,

Together with the whole congregation here at the Petri Church I wish you all a blessed Christmas and God’s guidance in the new year.

Again we want to thank you for your support in this special year, as we built the organ and celebrated Reformation. This was possible because of your prayers and good thoughts, and your generous giving. It was wonderful that one of you was able to come to the organ dedication and that you show interest in the activities of the congregation. We now have a special service once a month for small children and the attendance is improving steadily and many of the children are participating in the Christmas pageant. And our young people have started  a new diaconical project. In connection with our “clothes closet” project, which has helped the homeless in central St. Petersburg for many years, they now serve a free hot meal at 4 p.m. each Thursday. Many of those who take part by donating food and volunteering and partake become interested in our faith and occasionally attend a service. Some have contact with us via telephone, feeling they are being supported. As you can see, we are making progress!

For a second year now our congregation is taking part in the “Churma”  project to help the homeless in St. Petersburg. For a Christmas gift the congregation knitted 300 sets, each set consisting of a hat, scarf, gloves, and socks. (The project was started in October! )

The organ is our great joy. Three evenings each week we have organ concerts. I wish you could come and join us for some of them!

More good news. As part of the city’s efforts to restore historical/cultural monuments, the city will restore the façade of the Petrichurch and do some roof repairs at a cost of 40 million rubles. They expect to complete this project by the end of October 2018.

All good wishes,

Michael Schwarzkopf, Pastor
