A KALEIDOSCOPIC EXPERIENCE

A sharing from our delegation to St. Petersburg, Russia June 1998

ome members of the St. Petersburg group shared highlights with fellow members of Grace. Stories ranged from the ridiculous (power is having a roll of toilet paper) to the sublime

(when we shared the peace at the Petrikirche it wasn't necessary to understand each other's language, the eyes said it all). We shared amusing moments, (when we indicated we could do with less food) Nadezhda commanded us, "YOU EAT!" and moments that moved us deeply. Rebecca becoming Godmother of one of the boys being baptized at the Petrikirche.

We noted great contrasts;. the bleakness of the scenery once the train crossed from Finland into Russia, the opulence of palaces and churches verses visible poverty, in the streets. We expressed subjective joys and encounters. A unique subway ride; meeting another deaf person; buying amber, eating in a hamburger place with impressed Russians; surviving despite our bus driver! We gained a new awareness and understanding of the sacraments of Baptism and Communion as we shared them with our new brothers and sisters.

TURN THE KALEIDOSCOPE. NEW IMAGES WILL APPEAR!
